My paintings spring from a well inside me which captures runoff from my life experiences. There are droplets and puddles in there from everyday activities like hanging laundry and frying an egg to things that happen when I travel the world — colors of spices in a souk or the flap of prayer flags in the wind. When the well is full I pick up a brush and begin and anything is liable to happen. A series of cave painting work sprang from a trip to Armenia. Others that seem totally abstract are the result of being immersed in a new environment — a city visit becomes bright pink shapes echoing architecture and streets. The environment outside the studio may become a color field painting full of light and atmosphere. Going to the well can be very interesting.Select the thumbnail images below for a larger view and additional information about the artwork. |
